Bank branches in several cities will remain closed today for Id-E-Milad, Milad-un-Nabi and Thiruvonam, while branches in other parts of the country will operate as usual.According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram.The closures are linked to Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi, with Thiruvonam also observed in Kerala. The holiday is therefore not applicable to bank branches across the country.
Can you still use banking services?
A bank holiday affects physical branch operations but does not mean that all banking services stop. Customers can continue using ATMs, UPI, internet banking and mobile banking for most routine transactions, subject to scheduled maintenance.However, services requiring a physical branch visit, such as document submission, verification or certain account-related requests, will not be available at closed branches.Customers should check their specific branch’s holiday calendar before visiting, as bank holidays can vary by city and state.
When will banks remain closed next?
Banks across India will remain closed on Sunday, August 30, as part of the regular Sunday holiday. The next major state-specific closures after August 26 are scheduled for August 28, when branches in several centres will close for Raksha Bandhan and other regional observances.
