T’puram: An Onam celebration organized by the jail staff association at Poojappura central prison ended in a clash between employees during a DJ party on Saturday night, leaving an official of Attingal sub-jail with an eye injury.The incident took place around 9pm when the DJ programme was under way on the prison premises. Employees from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts attended the celebrations. The Onam celebrations were inaugurated by the director general of prisons.According to sources, trouble started when some employees attempted to get onto the stage to sing and dance during the DJ party. An argument that followed soon escalated into a fight. An official of Attingal sub-jail sustained an injury to his eye in the clash and was admitted to a private hospital. Some other employees also reportedly suffered injuries. Sources said there was suspicion that some of those involved in the altercation were under the influence of alcohol.The staff themselves intervened and brought the situation under control. Since the event was organised by the employees association and no participant has so far filed a formal complaint, police have not registered a case. However, the incident has come to the attention of the prison department. The DGP (prisons) is learnt to have sought a report on the incident.
